TP-Link plans on launching the Wi-Fi 8 router this October, but it probably won't arrive in the US, unless the company receives an exemption to the FCC's foreign-made router ban.
IEEE 802.11bn, dubbed Ultra High Reliability (UHR), is an upcoming IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard.[1][2] It is also designated Wi-Fi 8 by the Wi-Fi Alliance. As its designation suggests, 802.11bn aims to improve the reliability of wireless communications rather than primarily increasing data rates.[1][3] The standard is projected to be finalized in May 2028.[4]
They may have implemented a preliminary version of what they think the standard will look like, but they can’t really say that it’s Wi-Fi 8 until the standard that they’re claiming to implement is actually completed.
Unlike previous wifi versions, this version 8 focuses on signal strength, stability and reliability. So, it’s likely most non-wifi8 specific devices will benefit from it to some degree or another.
There aren’t any good WiFi 7 cards anyways. The Intel cards only work with new Intel CPUs. That just leaves Qualcomm and Mediatek with their buggy drivers.
The Intel AX210 cards are great for WiFi 6. Hopefully there will be something usable for WiFi 8, but I wouldn’t count on it.
Any stationary workstation or server in my house is hardwired, so I don’t know about cards. But my phones, personal laptop, etc are fairly new and still only wifi 6. Even my employer provided laptop is a hot-off-the-presses brand new Macbook, and it’s still wifi 6.
I’ve not owned a single device yet that takes advantage of my wifi 7. What am I gonna do with wifi 8 anyway?
They’re in the same boat.

There are multiple WIFI 7 cards and APs out there. What do you mean?
I do have a wifi 7 AP.

Latest Apple and Google phones do have wifi 7, as well as the M5 macs
