I recently started rewatching Serial Experiments: Lain and realized that it’s the perfect watch for a hot summer night: It’s chill, eerie and matches the summer night vibe perfectly.

What’s your favorite anime for hot summer nights and why?

The idea of watching something like pain on a hot summer day is totally counter to the way my brain works.

Give me something like “reincarnated as a hairstylist with god-tier cheat skills” that’s just people messing with the MC and regretting it for 72 episodes.

Steins;Gate one of the very characters itself is the hot oppressing city and there is this constant sound of cicadas in so many shots that keep this feeling of summer throughout all while being a really really good character piece of what insanity looks like.

I also really love Anohana but thats more about nostalgia and making me cry.

Call of the Night - the whole show is just pure vibes, and it portrays the nighttime in a unique way. Watching it after it gets dark enhances the experience. It’s even better if you have a thing for vampires

Higurashi When They Cry is the first thing that comes to mind for me when I think of summer heat, nights and screaming cicadas

Besides the obvious “summer” theming, I really liked The Summer Hikaru Died for being one of the only horror manga to still be good once made into an anime.

ive tried and I just cant get into it. I know some people who really like it but I guess its just not for me.

  • I discovered Inuyasha only because I find it hard to sleep when its hot and it would play on Adult Swim at like 2am. The filler episodes are usually chill, and there are a lot of them. My favorites are the ones focused on Shippo.

Honestly, I might be interpreting many scenes that way, because I watched it during a hot dinner night for the first time, now that I think about it

Ah that makes sense. I do love when things get associated like that. That’s how traditions get started sometimes. Eg: watch this show every June lol.

I’m now 5 episodes in and I don’t know WHATS going on lol. Love the uniqueness of it though. The animation is different. The long quiet pauses are different. Super relaxing pace. But not a relaxing premise.

Haha, yeah! To be fair it does play in summer and she is spending a lot of time at night sitting in front of her computer in her nightgown. But I definitely I love the show for it’s uniqueness. So many choices! The time it takes with some scenes. The episodes starting the same way gets me on each rewatch. Starting episode 2 I always check if I haven’t accidentally started episode 1 again.

    Bocchi the Rock

It’s winter for me at the moment but I adore Call of the Night for the wild midnight vibes and also Insomniacs after Dark cause it’s cozy as.

    Kowloon…

It’s a nice, misterious anime with old style anime style. Has a strong summer vibe
