Everywhere I look in these threads I see accusations of “far-right”, “racist”, “Nazi”, “fascist”, etc, coming from people who seem to me to be in support of equally extremist views such as communism, sexual sterilization of minors, unchecked mass migration, and other objectively destructive social, political and economic views.

If that’s the kind of people you see all around you, then you’re hanging out in some extremely questionable places that the rest of us aren’t. Where are you hanging out with people who have strong opinions on sexual sterilization of minors or equivalent? What kinds of weird shit are you into?

Not all of us who work in tech are so thoroughly indoctrinated with far left ideology that we can’t see the reality on the ground in our own homelands and develop an informed opinion on it.

All of us who work in tech are more than familiar with our weird alt right coworkers who think their constant guzzling of FOX News and OANN type propaganda is “information”. You’re not special, except as gossip fodder.

Do you think just ignoring a festering fascist presence that is getting tons of funding in a community that regularly has money problems will lead to it just going away?

I’m not playing defense for any particular perspective, I just try to understand all sides and get other people to see different perspectives before forming their own opinions.

You’re not trying to understand all sides by telling people they should entertain far right, xenophobic, and racist perspectives while doing your best to not acknowledge that that’s what the perspective is. You’re basically trying to shame people into tolerating the intolerant by vaguely gesturing at a blunt virtue.

Don’t pretend like you’re here trying to convince someone who is against considering a stream of ontology because they prefer a different branch of it. We’re talking about not entertaining DHH’s specific values. If you can’t even admit what those values are when you’re trying to tell people they should respect them, then you must know it’s wrong.
