I can’t imagine wanting to float untethered in space. I love space, astronomy is fascinating. Do I want to go there? Nope. I like being on land.
The idea of floating in the airless void with no connections to the one metal tube out there that can bring me back home is utterly terrifying. Props to Bruce (and other astronauts) for going with it, but whew boy, does the thought scare the crap out of me.
People that wander tend to be more secure in strange and alien situations.
Sure, there may be fundamental portions of the experience that are entirely new and unique to them, but the general idea of “I’m out here and eventually I’ll go back” stays true.
